    Green light or unlocked door means available. Lockers are usually near station exits or ticket gates.

    Push it in firmly and close the door. Make sure it shuts completely before paying.

    Modern touch screen lockers accept Suica, Pasmo or Icoca. Older ones take 100 yen coins only.

    Keep your key or receipt

    Coin lockers give you a physical key. Touch screen lockers print a receipt with a QR code, or remember the IC card you used.

    Retrieve before closing

Lockers near Tokyo, Shinjuku and Kyoto stations fill up fast on weekends and during holidays. Aim for before 10am.

Carry 100 yen coins

Some older lockers still only accept 100 yen coins. Konbini will break a 1000 yen note if you ask politely.

If lockers are full, manned storage counters at major stations accept any size bag for around 700 yen per day.
